Mercedes 380SL
Vin / Chassis Number Location
Hi, I have recently purchase a 81 or 82 380sl. The vehicle has had front end repairs making it impossible to locate the VIN/Chassis number in the engine bay. Does anybody know if it is possible to locate the ID anywhere else in the car?

If the 107 is a North America model there will be three locations easily located.
1. Stamped into the upper radiator cross support. Probably gone if repaired after front damage.
2.. VIN plate riveted to the "A" pillar visible through the windshield.
3. US Federal safety certification plat riveted to the drivers door jamb. This plate also has the month/year of manufacture.
I don't know when it began but paper build strips with VIN and other data can be found under the the plastic cap of the jack base mount, bottom of the shifter surround and occasionally in the seat springs.
