Selling my 1983 500sl Euro
I am looking to sell my 1983 500SL Euro.....
I haved owned this car for 17 years....I had it in Florida for 15 and it has been in Charlotte, NC for the last 2 years.
This was my first real sports car and through the years as I have done better, this car has received the back burner.......
About 4 years ago I deceided to start driving again and started to do a restoration....At the time we replaced the soft top (we no longer have hard top) Replaced the leather on all the seats, new carpet, Radio (GPS, CD, DVD)
We really didnt drive it much.....so again it sat........When we moved to NC 2 years, we had plans to drive and did about $6500 worth of work regards to tune up, brakes, hoses.....car still sat for about 6 months......Then started driving and the started having issues with transmission. Didnt want to put additional money in the car, so we parked, started it weekly and put stabil-eze in the gas tank.
The transmission seems to be just a linkage issue - Its an automatic, on the shifter, when you goto put in gear, you need to play with it, to get it in reverse, drive or neutral........Fluid is CLEAN..............
When we redid the car 4 years ago, we had a paint job, but from sitting, you can see areas of clear coat that have issues......Also there are 3 small areas of rust......1. is a bubble on the front quarter panel 2. is a chip between trunk lid and boot and 3rd area is within the trunk lid, aound the back lip of trunk.
The dashboard is showing signs of cracking from sun, and steering wheel is dried from the sun also.
Car turns right over - engine is STRONG!! Idle needs to be adjusted.....I drove the car today and She got up and went...
I am asking $6500.00
This car is a VERY RARE EURO - This car was not made or sold in the US Market in 1983, so only way was to goto Germany, buy it and bring it over. The 500sl is known as the Fastest 107 chassis car - it blows the doors off the 560sl.
The car has ground effects kit all around and spoiler, these were on the car when I purchased, so I am not aware of their origins.....
