1981 280sl R107 cut off and will not start
280sl with m110 engine. 14 months ago, I put new fuel pump and filter on this vehicle. It has ran and cranked excellent up until this afternoon. I start the car twice weekly and let it idle 5 minutes or so if I do not drive it during the week. This afternoon, it was idling and cut off on me. Would not start back. I disconnected the gas supply line and it gets wet but does not spurt gas. Is it possible my 14 month old fuel pump has went bad or something is clogged. 3/4 tank of gas put in this car one month ago. Help!

Does the fuel pump buzz for a second when you first turn the ignition on without starting? If not it could be the relay.

Fuel pump did hum when turning ignition. I have taken the fuel pump off car and checked with 12 V battery. It runs when I do this. I have also compressor blown out the fuel return line and it gurgles in the gas tank so that seems to be clear. If not the relay, what are the other could be problems?

possible you have low fuel pressure, below 3 bar injectors won't open. possible reason if there is no fuel leak, fuel filter isn't blocked will be mesh inside fuel tank. is just on bottom of tank where hose going to fuel filter, if this is clogged fuel can't go to pump, or pump is getting to small volume off fuel to built up right pressure. hope thats help

Thanks locky2. Fuel pump checked out okay. Wire mesh filter in tank is not clogged. No fuel coming out of supply line under hood. Beginning to worry that it may be a fuel pump relay which I know nothing about.
