SL/R107: IDLE TO FAST

IDLE TO FAST
My 1986 560 sl was idling at aprox 1250 RPM's.. was told by a MB mechanic that the fuel pressure regulator need to be replaced...because it was leaking fuel and that would solve the idle issue...I replaced the FP Regulator and now the the 560 is idling at aprox at 1500 RPM's..the benz runs great except for the idle issue....starts without any hesitation.. runs down the road as it was made to do....
What now?
Thank you in advance

Had the same problem with my 86 560sl. I also cleaned the ICV and also took the time to lube all the throttle linkages. Idles perfectly now at about half your idle speed.

There is the idle control valve. Cleaning may help. There is also an idle control relay/unit that might be the problem. Since the pressure regulator made a difference it needed replacing.
Sometimes the OVP (over voltage protection) relay can contribute but most of the time there are other symptoms if it or the fuse on it fails.
