SL/R107: Burning oil

Burning oil
We have a new to us 1986 560SL. Love it, but it burns oil -- about a quart every 300 miles.
While we can probably live with it, any thoughts on the effort to repair it? Not being particularly mechanical, I have no idea, but do have a good Indy.

I asked here, because my experience on the SL65 and E55 forums was that they were very knowledgable about their cars, often more than any indy. I found they were nice, helpful and interesting.
My first post on the 560SL forum and all I get is criticism for posting.
