VIN # Locations 1976 450SL
I just bought a 1976 Mercedes 450SL as a project car for my dad to drive when i'm done with it. The VIN# matches on the drivers side pillar, the driver door sticker, and the stamped VIN# on the radiator support, however, their is a 'plate' on the radiator support as well and that VIN#s 9 thru 14 are different. What does that mean for this car? Did I get screwed? Is this the 'build plate' that I've been reading about? Did someone change it? Does is matter that it's different? Should I remove it since diff?
Thanks,
Matt
Thanks,
Matt

Normal. The body/build plate does not show the VIN. It will show body style only and not the last six of the VIN. Yours should be 107 044 12 then I think five numbers space(s) then one number.

MyWay: I have attached pics of the pillar vin plate and the 'build plate'; so you're saying the VIN# on the 'build plate' (107044 12 04827 7) is not actually a VIN#? This is normal? The pillar VIN pic is the one that matches the door sticker and the stamped vin on the radiator support and the title.
I appreciate the info; i'm new the MB world.
Thx
Matt

That is what I am saying. The number on the build plate should not match the VIN.
