Starter problems, 1987 560sl
Hi All. I wonder if anyone has experienced this issue: The starter on our '87 560sl had to be replaced two months ago, and since then we have had three starters that have all failed. Our mechanic whom we have known for a long time and whom we trust tells us that he is using German-made Bosch starters designed specifically for the 560sl. Each starter worked perfectly for 1 or 2 weeks, then started intermittently making a loud grinding noise during starts. The grinding would rapidly increase in frequency and within another week or two the starter would fail.
Our mechanic knows the 560's very well, but he is human, and we're wondering if there is another issue he might be missing. Any ideas?
