560SL Rear Convertible Top Pin Not Catching

Hi All! New member here. Recently bought an '88 560SL with 44K miles and trying to learn a lot about it while planning to learn how to do maintenance myself. This car has sat 6 months every year for almost all its life, as its former owner is a snowbird here in Arizona. One problem I'm having is getting the rear soft top pin to catch in the latching assembly, even when the "hook" in the assembly seems to be ready to catch the notch in the pin. Seems like I should loosen the assembly and move it towards the notch until it does. Not yet having the shop manual doesn't help. Thanks in advance for all replies.

Is the lever in the correct position? Left side, on rear interior panel. I don't recall exactly but it must be positioned (up I think) then latch rear pin and return to horizontal.

You best get a book for that car.

Thanks, Rocky Racoon (sounds like you're also a Beatles fan)! It was moving the lever (with the knob) to the 2 o'clock position that pulled the pin down and locked it. Yes, I will get the shop manual for it but they're offered on eBay for $300 to almost $500! But paper manuals may be easier to use than those on a DVD for owners without a laptop. So far I have to keep telling myself that it's not a 300-460 hp Vette! A totally different animal.
