1988 560SL, 2017 SL 450, and a few Corvettes
While I'm glad you sold it, was there that much timing chain wear in 66K miles that it had to be replaced? Thought they didn't even have to be inspected until about 100K miles.

The timing chain is not what fails. It is the plastic upper guides (slide rails). They become brittle with age and heat cycles and then break. Tensioners can also become weak but usually not in 66,000 miles.

Thanks. I'll be soon inspecting the slide rails in my '88 560SL with 45k miles.
