Freon conversion from R12 to R134 on my 1989 560SL

I'm reaching out to the MB Forum community as a new member for some help and guidance in obtaining the proper conversion valves needed to convert the OEM R12 freon to R134 on my 1989 560SL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sam

"Conversion valves"? Please explain. I had my 560SL converted and the mechanic never mentioned that term.

R12 to R134 Freon valves

Mike
It’s my understanding that the OEM R12 shrader valves need adapters to accept the R134 Freon. If you had your Freon upgraded is it possible that you can reach out to your mechanic ask what brand of valve adapter was used and where he obtained them from. That would be greatly helpful.
thanks in advance.

You're correct. My mechanic did buy a kit for the valves from NAPA Auto Parts, so you or your mechanic should be able to buy it also.

Thanks for the helpful info Mike. How long have you had the R134 in the car and have there been any disappointments with the performance?

About a year. Seems cool enough, even in our 115° summers, but probably would have to have the top up, which I dislike. The only thing about the car I wish would be better would be a faster fan motor. It has only two speeds, and "low" is relatively useless. M-B over-engineered so many other facets of the car, but under-engineered the air conditioning system. But there's probably not enough of these cars to get an aftermarket high-speed fan kit available.
