I have a 560SL with an unusual (to my ears) exhaust note. The exhaust makes a light and rapid chff-chff-chff sound (on top of the good old V8 growl) on acceleration. I can't feel any hesitation and to my knowledge, there are no engine problems. In my local area, there aren't very many 560SL's at all, so I can't verify with someone I know. Is that what it is supposed to sound like?

There are several reasons an exhaust note might change, but usually accompanied by engine symptoms. However, without hearing your exhaust, I can only imagine the simplist item first... Loose exhaust, especially at the manifold or joints immediately below the manifold. I know I'm shootin in the dark here. Good luck finding cause.
