Hot Start Problem 1988 560 SL
Recently my 1988 560 SL (68,000 miles) has been having problems re-starting after it has warmed up. It fires up right away when cold, but if I drive it for 15 minutes, turn it off and try to restart, it doesn't fire. The starter cranks and there is a high whinning sound but no ignition. If I let it sit for 10 minutes, it usually will then start. Any ideas?

If you have carburetter:
When it stops: open hood, take off the airfilter, put 1/3 deciliter of fuel directly into the carburetter, try to start.
If it starts you know the problem is about fuel.

Hot start problem fixed!
Turns out the problem was a faulty fuel pump relay. It was replaced and the engine fires up every time now. The relay is buried behind the glove box and not easy to get to. Also the relay cost $110!!!
