Sorry if the questions are a bit out of left field but I am brand new to Mercedes (have been more into old American). I bought a fairly nice 76 450SL hardtop convertible a couple years ago and know nothing about it. A young neighbor who is into cars was going crazy over the fact that it's an AMG. I am having a hard time finding any real information on this car so I was wondering if anyone here could give me some info on it. I saw one site that said it was very rare because of the AMG designation (there is a signature on the windshield). Is this actually a rare car? Where would I be able to find some information/history on this car?
The only thing AMG visible in your picture is the lower side skirt. The spoiler looks like the one used on some Euro models beginning in 1978. There is no VIN checker I know of that will show options (data) on a 1976 model. There should be a plate screwed to the upper radiator cross support showing most of the option codes, Run here :https://carclassic.com/library/r107-w107-guide/#decoder The wheels look like '86-'89 107 model.
Post more pictures like windshield signature etc. Anything showring AMG.
