R134 conversion for 1982 380sl
I will admit to not exhaustively searching every nook and cranny of all the forums for specific posts but I can not find anything regarding the noted r12 to 134 conversion for a 1982 380sl. I think the system including the compressor is OK, but I hope to find someone who is familiar with what needs to be done and not injure the compressor. My understanding is I would need to change out the expansion valve under the dash (easy and not too much $$$), new drier (easy to do and about $30), I've a vacuum pump to evacuate the system. Flush kits and solvents are not too expensive and I have a compressor in the garage so I got air. A few years ago I got a O ring set that supposedly has all the seals that are presumably compatible with PAG oil used with 134. Looks easy enough to change those out. I got new 134 adapter fittings
But it seems the oil is different for the two gases and not compatible, so it will need changing/flushing of the system. Do you have to remove the compressor and drain it? Then flush it? Put every thing back together and fill the compressor with the specified oil at reassembly? Looks like the compressor is a PITA to get at, although maybe not really terrible.
I am hoping someone has the specifics for this conversion on the R107. I think the compressor is a GM/Frigidaire A6 unit. As I recall back in the day, a substantial unit. Any help would be appreciated if there is info on working on that type system with that compressor.
