Hi everyone

i have a 1979 Mercedes sl450 while taking out few things out of the trunk i closed the trunk and left the key inside the car was unlocked but the trunk was closed and i found it after a few days now i do have access to inside of the car but can’t get to the trunk and for some reason even though the car is unlocked I can’t open the trunk i tried taking the car to the closest dealer but the dealer told me they will need to drill the lock and install a new lock and i declined doing that because everything on the car is original and i don’t want to have 2 different keys for the car

Any advice or help would be highly appreciated

Wait, you locked key in trunk.
but were able to drive it to dealer?
So that means you have

or remove the rear wheel and wheel well liner and access the trunk possibly with some drilling and discrete cutting and then a concealed repair 🧑‍🔧

try good local lock smith...

the oldest guy in town as he would have most experience and might be able to pick lock.

What about popping up rear of soft top... is there not a way back into trunk? Might need camera on a stick and then some sort of flexible tool grabber thing or magnet on end of stick?

I had a similar problem and the dealer cut new keys for me based on the VIN along with my proof of ownership.

Order a key from the dealer with the VIN. You will need drivers license (ID) and registration or title.

There is no way into the trunk other than with a key.

there is also no way to open the trunk from the inside so looking for small access holes is moot

the fuel tank sits behind the rear shelf area and blocks access that way.

Have you talked with a Mercedes dealer about making a key? This is not a unique problem! People do this all the time and it is no big deal to order a key based on your VIN
