Wife really wanted a convertible for some local cruising. I took the plunge on this 1977 450 SL. The car looks great from 20ft or more but there is some peeling and cracks on the non-original paint job. I now have a list of need to/want to fix or replace items on the car.
IN order of importance:
Replace soft top, Since I ripped the top on the second day of ownership. (it was a little dried out and fragile)
Fix noise from under rear of car. There is a banging sound on turns or bumps that could be the exhaust bumping because the muffler hanging O-Rings seem a little big, allowing for excessive movement of exhaust and muffler. It may also be related to rear drivetrain/axle. Mechanic can address this issue.
Store hard top by suspending from garage ceiling.
replace original Blaupunkt radio with anything that will stream Spotify.
Power antennae not working, but there.
Right turn signal indicator not lighting during use.
Replace rims with something nicer looking.
My first question- Where to get a replacement soft top?
First thing I’d look at with this car if it has sat for any amount of time is the fuel system.
The second is tunes, totally agree on streaming. Blaupunkt actually has one that looks original and has Bluetooth for streaming whatever you want - the Bremen or Frankfurt.
And if you wanna get rid of your old blaupunkt, I’m looking for one so PM me.
