Replacing Side Moldings On SL

I have been restoring my 1988 560SL (starting to look pretty near new) and am now considering replacing the side moldings which are somewhat weathered and faded. Finding and purchasing new moldings isn't a problem but I am concerned over removing the old ones. If any one has done this or had it done, I would appreciate suggestions and comments on whether this is something I should get into myself or have a body shop handle. My experience is best tips come from other owners so I would appreciate comments.

I'm not sure if anything is different between your 88 and my 80 107, but the side molding just pull out. There are holes drilled behind moldings and in the holes are red plastic inserts with a smaller holes centered that receive pins attatched to the moldings. If you are careful, slide a putty knife behind one end of the molding and pry it out a little then do the next and so on prying all of them out little by little until the molding is off. I do it this way so as not to put a perminate bend, or kink, in the molding. RT
