SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Supercharger Intermittent..turns Off Then Comes Back On??
I Posted Before And Had Very Little Response..is This A Rare Problem Or Has Anyone Else Had This Problem??
You Know About All Of My Rt-10 Problems...they Have Agreed To Buy It Back ..i Liked The Car And Wanted To Keep It But I Guess They Figured Out That It Was Unfixable ..
I Had Once Posted On The Vca Forum " What If D/c Built A Car That Grandpa Could Smoke A Viper With?"
Then They Announced The Sl55(pretty Close 0-60) And A Sl65 Would Smoke A Stock Rt-10...
On The Sl55 Supercharger...
My Friend Who Has A 2005 Sl55 Said That He Had The Same Problem And That It Was The Electric Water Pump Failing That Caused The Temp Sender In The Intercooler To Shut The S/c Off Until The Charged Air Cooled Down..
Seems Like A Similar Problem..

I also loved the SL55 (R230) the first time that I saw it ..I have a 280SL and a 560SL both are now classics..I hate the 1990-2002 SLs I think they look like Mustangs..(sorry guys)..
I also loved the RT-10 but thought it was very large for a sports car. The Viper was a weak attempt to replace my 1966 427 Cobra (CSX 3127) that I sold in 2001 after 15 years(regrets, regrets) the Viper was so big that it was to wide to fit in the same garage as the Cobra(had to park my 246GTS in that spot)..
It took a while but I finally got used to the size of the Viper and loved the car when I pushed it to the limit in the in some of the amazing canyon roads here in Malibu.. unfortunately I was only able to drive the Viper 1,500 miles in 2 years, at first it was a blast...But after the first 500 miles the car was never any fun because it was always running near the RED (245+ degrees) As you know it was in the shop over 15 times(over 6 months sitting) then it finally blew up!!
I remember posting in 2002 that D/C should offer a factory Hi-Po Viper option(more HP) to those who wanted it or could afford to pay..The guys on the VCA hammered me into the ground for even suggesting that a Viper could use more power..(many of the same guys have added a S/C)..they said with great authority that no manufacturer would ever offer to the public a car with over 500HP because of the risks and liability factors..
No manufacturers other than D/C, Ford, GM,Bentley,Ferrari,Porsche!!..soon you will probably be able to get a 600HP Yugo..
I tried pushing the SL55 in some of the same canyons but the car feels very heavy (it is @ 4.400 lbs)but I will get used to that also..
Once the car is out of warranty I will chip/pulley it and the SL55 should be right there with the RT-10! Maybe I will buy a SL65 or if it is true a light weight SL55..
