I think the main question to ask is: Is it for you or your wife/gf?
The SLK is TINY... a roadster for sure... and IMHO a much better fit for a woman. The SL55 is a true GT... more masculine, larger, and FAR FAR FAR more luxurious...

Not that we're bias, but slk is a bit small. I would buy one to "autocross" but as a true GT, sl55 hands down. Ride, feel, comfort creatures, and power.

From what I have read the SLK55 is a great sports car and actually has better lap times on a track.
It all depends what you want...for my purposes right now the SL55 gets the nod!

I just traded in my 2003 SL55 with Boost kit for a new SLK55. Now, I got to say, if it were for me, I would not have done it. It is a true girls car. I got the SL55 for my wife, and then modded it, and she hardly drove it. So while in service for some quality issues, I saw the little car and asked her if she would want it. She of course said OK.
I was embarrased driving it home. I swore that day I would never drive it again, and I intend to keep that promise. Men do not belong in that car, that is just the truth. It is a truly beautiful car, but just toooo girly. It is more than enough car for any woman and my wife loves it. It even has the rumble of the SL.
BTW, I kept my 20" HRE 547's. If anyone if looking for some nice wheels, PM me.

the Macho SL......
When choosing between these cars most people seem to have gone for the SL for males. I hope Mercedes are listening before they decide to do the facelift to make the SL look like the SLR...will that make the SL too girly and make the SLK look too much like the SL...interesting times...

I personally don't see why it is a bad thing if the car is 'small'?
The roads in Europe are tighter and smaller, as are most parking spots. A slightly smaller car is just a lot easier to handle and drive around over here.
But seriously, does size matter? Are you compensating for something by driving the SL rather then an SLK? I find reasoning like this to be just a little silly, IMO, it should be more about which car delivers what kind of thrills to their owner. Perhaps one prefers the look of the SLK over the SL, whilst another prefer the interior of the SL to the SLK, and a third wants to have more gadgets and power.
But size? who. the. f***. cares. If you want size, go for an SUV.

I dont fit at all in the SLK, which is another reason not to drive it. When we had the SL55, I never really drove that either. The only Benz I drive is my CL55. Things are different outside of the states. The SLK is more acceptable elsewhere, while in the states, it is known as a girlie car. I will agree, that on the drive back, it drove really well and performed much like the SL. I dont care for the dash at all. It looks very plasticy to me, but to each his own.
