As a 2nd sporty car what would you take?

1) SL55
2) 997 Carrera S
3) new 06 Corvette Z06?

Had E55 but traded it in, and now looking to buy 2nd car for fun driving and maybe few track days. Test drove 997s WOW! That thing is awesome.

what would you take?

I think I would take the 911. The SL55 is a great car but is more an all rounder, as it is very comfortable as an everyday car but is also a decent sports car. Since u already have a comfortable car, I would take the 911 which is much more sportier than the SL55 although not as comfortable. Not to mention you would save a few $$$ by getting the 911 over the SL55. As for the Z06, great car, and although much cheaper, I think (they dont have them in Oz), pales in comparison to the Porsche.

The new Z06 will be tough to beat as a weekend warrior/track day weapon. 500hp/475tq in an extremely lightweight package - supercar handling and incredible acceleration.

Pick up a used Z06, doesnt make since to buy a corvette brand new and then loose 20K in the first year or two on that car. 03 Z06s are going for 30 in my area, starting price on that car was 56!

Sticker on a 2003 Z06 was 51-52k. Most people paid $7000 off sticker (I know I did) because the internet dealers were all offering $7k off. In '04, a Z06/Z16 (the one with the stripes, factory CF hood) was around $57k and the internet dealers were discounting as much as $11000 off sticker.

I do agree that the C5 Z06 is a huge performance bargain, I certainly have no plans to get rid of mine

997 S, if not for the amazing ride, do it for the fact that it will not lose value as much as the z06 and sl 55.

Not sure about the new Z06 but the SL55 will hold its value much better than a 997S -- Only regular 997's with zero options hold value....

Fully optioning a car in like flushing $$$ down the tubes...

The SL55 will be a slight downgrade performance wise to the E55 (I have them both), so I'd run w/ the 911.

When you say take it to track, do you mean straight away or circuit. For straight away - Z06. For the circuit - 911 Carrera. Personally for I would go for the Z06 since it will be cheaper to modd and it already comes with 500hp+ motor.

I would go with the 911 as well. It's a sportier car than the SL55 though not as comfortable but with comparable performance. I took my 911 onto the Nurburgring a few days a go and it was simply awesome. I'm actually no fan of the 997 interior and I would advise against the auto tiptronic option. Manual is what you need for the 911.

I love MB, but since I already have one, I'd take the 997.
