It's kind of hard to describe.
EuroTuner (magazine) did a shoot out between quite a few tires and the PS2 won. Also the PS2 is one of the most popular tires on this forum so you know it's good.

They just simply offer the best combo of dry traction and wet traction.

Thanks, R.A. - I'll keep that in mind.

Would you have a better suggestion for wheel/tire combo than what I'm leaning towards?

Thanks in advance.

Headers/Throttle Box

Oh, yeah. . .

Are the RennTech Stainless Headers and/or Throttle Box worth the $$ - or is the car pretty hot with just the ECU, crankshaft, cf airbox, together with Eisenmann exhaust??!!

Thanks.

Those are about... let me check figures.

Headers are 25/25
Throttle Body is 25/25.

Of course you won't get those figures each if you did all the upgrades. You're looking at a total of 100hp or so with all the mods if I remember right off the top of my head. It might be more on a healthier car.

Personally, get the ECU only, see if you like it. If you still want the extra power, do the other mods. The big difference isn't the power upgrade by the ECU, it's the massive change they do in the shifting and response. That's why the 4.5L X5 4.4i feels slower than the 4.4L X5 4.4i. The newer one (4.5L) has slower throttle response.

Thanks a lot. That is what I'm leaning towards - doing the engine mods stage by stage, and adding based on my reaction(s).

By the way:

It might be more on a healthier car.
Is this yet another attempt to hint at the 65?

Suspension Upgrade

What's your reasoning for doing a "SUSPENSION UPGRADE"?

Good Question

I'm not sold on that, yet. My understanding is that is lowers the "sport" mode by about 30-33mm, and does little-if anything-else.

Your thoughts are more than welcome. . .

I see

I see, I thought maybe it was for the increased power from the Renntech upgrade, but it sounds like it is a cosmetic addition to the car.

I am not aware of any performance enhancements (except for those which I'll call "track-related").

As I said when I started this thread, I'm new at this. . . and relatively ignorant. BUT. I'm workin' on it!

By the way, Nice car!

Renntech

I have been considering doing the Renntech on the SL600, which is a simple upgrade, just reading and listening to different people trying to make sure I don't do something that is going to mess up the car.

I want to be able to take the car out even to a track and run it hard, and not have to worry that the upgrade is going to break something. That's my only concern with the whole thing.

My technical knowledge is LOW, I listen and learn.

I probably won't hit the track - just trying to do a one-time "special" car. I don't want to damage the "feel" of the car, nor do I care to spend useless $$K to get it "race ready." At this point, my tech. knowledge is pretty low, too. We're in the same boat.

Good Luck.

GT55SLRENN, I'm eager to see how your project turns out and to hear your comments on the Renntech stuff because I'm seeking the same thing (HP) but those parts are overpriced BIGTIME for the meager horsepower gains... I'll stay tuned to see how you fare then I'll make my decision...

Do I Need To Change My Handle??

In keeping with a few comments dropped here, I have decided to order the 65, not the 55. I just changed my order at the dealer; I don't know when I'll get it, yet, but I can hardly wait.

Once it arrives, it'll be off for the RennTech ECU upgrade, Eisenmann Exhaust, carbon interior, etc..

BTW, does anyone know if RennTech offers a replacement front spoiler for the SL65? It is so different from the 55, and I like the factory offering; I'd just be intereste in one that's even cooler.

Also, any point in upgrading brakes on the 65? It already comes with 15"F and 13"R??!!

Thanks, again.
