The bose preamp is EQ'd. They install crap for speakers then EQ it to get it to sound decent. That's what makes changing the speakers or adding an amp so difficult. But not impossible. There is a company that I know "de-EQ's" that EQ. And gives a fairly flat signal out which can then go to a standard amplifier and speakers. Its just a lot of work... that's all.... the Bose system is very difficult to work with.

The H\K is better without a doubt, bose is simply crap. That is why the E-Class, new M-Class and R-Class and the upcoming S-Class is using H\K. Audi is also no longer offering Bose in the Audi A8 so it must say that car companies are slowly stepping away from Bose.

Thank god D/C is using Boston Acoustics in Chryslers now. They wouldn't go astray in Benz's either, judging by the sound quality in my new Jeep and the feedback from one of the reviewers for Stereophile's Ultimate AV. I've been putting together high end aftermarket systems in my own cars for 15 years and the BA is most legit factory one I've heard to date. The CLS55's HK is pretty damn good too. I haven't spent enough time in one to evaluate it fully yet though, but look forward to doing so shortly.

Speaking for myself and my car----> stock stereo system(HK) from my 05 e55 SUCKS PERIOD!
I recently put in a Eclipse Navi(didn't change speakers or wire) in my Toyota Tundra Limited and that sounds better than my 55!
On the other hand...my HK stock sound system sounded little better in the 04' M3.
