SL55 AMG Shock Absorbers
I've had enough of the shock failing on the SL55 (warranty or not). Is it possible to replace them with conventional dampers and springs? If so, who does them?

All of the computer controls and airmatic related equipment would have to be disabled. Remember, the ECU constantly communicates with all the other sensors and computers in the car. If it sees that the airmatic or ABC systems are not functioning it will constantly throw codes.
Personally, I don't think this one is possible...

Airmatic? The SL does not use air suspension. Amazing how many people think it does.
The suspension struts in an SL are adjustable for both spring and damper rates, directly under the control of the ABC (Active Body Control) and hydraulic pumps and control units. They are also used to control ride-height and such nasties as anti-squant and anti-dive when this (heavy) car accelerates or brakes.
They are therefore part of a tightly integrated system and as such, individual components cannot be substituted.
