Latest RENNTECH SL65 results: 11.34 & 11.37 1/4 mile

The RENNtech SL65 was unstoppable tonight, with 6 passes in 3 hours at the local dragstrip. The slowest pass was a warmup 11.6 run where I lifted momentarily after launch to quell wheelspin. After that I religiously did a solid burnout; and now that temps have cooled to the high 60s the SL is launching harder than ever. I got a 1.67 and 1.71 60' time on my best passes with minimal brake torquing. Some other firsts: a 7.3 @ 98 1/8th mile (!!) and a 1.67 60'.

Next round will be the last Saturday of the month. By then I'll have the new RENNtech airbox and some updated programming. I may also switch to larger rear tires to avoid the 3-4 shift right before the traps. 11.2s are now within reach!

I suppose it almost goes without saying, but I demolished a number of other fast street cars in the process of recording these passes. IIRC the tally included a heavily modified WRX STi, a worked-over 300zx TT, a modified LS1 camaro, and a couple of others. The only other street car I saw which ran remotely similar times was the aforementioned WRX, which ran only 12.1 against me but later turned in an 11.4 before blowing a turbo. At least at Sacramento Raceway, running 11.3s puts you out of the league of all but the fastest of street cars. Doing it reliably in a stock-driving, stock-appearing ultra-luxury car is... well, very very nice

Here's one pass, beating a heavily moddy STi which ran an 11.4:

I believe it's an old wooden ship used in the Civil War.

treynor, I've been meaning to speak to you for a while. You might want to find a close friend or relative and lay low for a while. You're probably wanted for murder.. OF SUBIES!

Last dyno was 550 RWHP / 740 RWTQ; I need to take it back to get updated readings once I install the RENNtech airbox.

What were the atmospheric conditions at the track?

Sweet runs, BTW!!!!

Humid, low 70s to mid 60s. The best runs were after dark. The car hooks up amazing well in dyno mode with the BFGs.

I'm doing the Renntech mods no later than December, but want to go with wider tires asap. What are the recommended Renntech mods, and the wider tire sizes recommended Treynor.

Wider street tires will not make much of a difference - I suppose you could go with some 315s if you must. The real key to dragstrip performance (other than the upgrades, of course) is a pair of 18" wheels with 275/35 or 295/35 BFG g-force drag radials.

As for upgrades... all of them

You don't run your drag's on the regular street though right?
And wouldn't that extra 275 to 305 jump in the rear help with traction as the tire starts to get worn down?

Cool

Cool. What will it take to get the 65 into the 10's along with your viper?

Last I heard, Treynor was working on some kind of rocket propelled design....

It'll almost certainly be into the 11.2s with the air box and updated RENNtech programming. After that... well, Hartmut and I are scheming

all i can say is WOW!

one question to the sl65 moderz. i went last week to MBUSA for the NE AMG event. The sl65 was brought up that it's limited to 155mph and that the 030 package will not be offered since the turbo's would over heat. my question is have you guys taken the 65 over 155mph and if so had any problems? i assume rennetech gets rid of the 155mph limiter?

Who told you the turbo's would overheat?

SL65's in europe have the limiters moved up to 186 all the time. This has never been a problem.

Sounds way fishy to me.

The SL65 already has all of the 030 package except the limiter raised. I would be quite surprised if they don't start raising the limit to 186 for SL65's. Are you really going to have a 140K car that has a 186 limit and a 190K car with a 155 limit?

haters crazy
I believe at the AMG event, Rob Allen was referring to the SL55 which was sitting in the lobby (not the SL65 which was sitting outside). I dont think the 030 option will be offered on the 65.
Trey- I'll race you for your car... after I let the air out your rear tires! j/k GREAT work with the SL65 and I know alot of people are living vicariously through you. BREAK INTO THE 10's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
