SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: High oil usage?

High oil usage?
My '65 has been eating oil.
I do a lot of long distance driving (1300 miles over two days) and after every trip I'm putting in 1.5 qts of Mobil1 (1 and a bit liter).
MB say this is normal, but i'm not sure I believe them.
Has anyone else had to add this much oil to their '65's??

SL65/BENTLEY GT
I was a quart low after I hit the 2300 mile mark, and Quality Control at MB changed the oil, and told me to come back between 600-1000 miles for a check up. I am going back to them on Monday to see if there has been any significant changes. They told me that it was the break in period, and that they have seen it once before on a SL65.
