SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: The best way I found to lower my SL55 ( before and after pictures)

The car can be lowered using the SDS, and it is pretty simple... There is only so far you can go or else the airmatic control unit will not allow you to calibrate the ride height at the setting you choose. The voltage signal from the ride height sensors must be withing a certain range that is preset into the control unit. After that, there is a special tool you use to measure the inclination angle at all four corners.. basically the angle of the suspension arm at rest. This value you can set to try and make the car a little lower as well. I did it to my 06 E, I will post some pics later. I dont remember exactly how much I got out of it.. The left front wheel was the sensor that kept coming out of range first and not letting me slam it.
Also, I have thought about running some setup to dump the airmatic resevoir, creating a "bagged" effect if you will. Just thought that would be cool to do if I was out at the car show. :p

j/k. In all actuality, the comments in this thread confirmed a certain feeling that I was having.....that I haven't lowered the car low enough. Part of my reservation in lowering it more was due to all the scraping I had in my lower front spoiler of my NSX when I lowered it. It was very difficult to drive around town without bottoming out.
The SL55 is a little different in that in has 3 different ride height settings. Currently, the height you all see in the pictures is the lowest of the 3 settings.
I just spoke with Atlanta Classic Cars and have arranged for them to lower it even more. I still won't "slam" it. However, I am going to keep the current height as the middle setting, and have a setting that is lower and higher than the current one.
I guess we'll all find out pretty soon if this can be done without causing me any errors or problems. I sure hope not!

Docdan - excellent thread - thank you for sharing all of this information. I recently moved away from the ATL area and will confirm that Atlanta Classic Cars has one of the premier MB shops in that metro area. I was wondering what did Nash do to eliminate the supercharger clutch chirp - assuming it's still gone. I'm now out in Scottsdale, AZ and local MB dealer claims it can't be fixed either.

Lowered front - parking problems?
Your car looks great lowered. Do you have any problems when going forward into a parking space in a commercial garage where tire butts are in place? I have to be very careful with that in the States. Here in Bangkok it is not a worry as everyone backs into parking slots.

I spoke with Nash regarding this just yesterday. In my particular case, the chirping was caused by worn out supercharger belts. However, he told me in most cases the culprit is the "supercharger idler" that "loses some of its original tension" and should be replaced.
Now, I can do foot surgery with the best of them, but I don't understand supercharger's very well, so I hope this helps you.

Absolutely no problems with the car being lowered. Having owned a few cars in the past that were very low, I have learned to look ahead at where my car will be turning. I assess the steepness of upcoming driveways, etc.. and raise the height of my car 1 or 2 steps in order to clear the ascent/descent of the driveway.
This same principle could be applied to parking bumpers. Just raise the car up if you're concerned about bumping into things.

another cheap and safe way to lower the car, as we all know is the lowering links.. about 200-300 dollars you can purchase these links an lower the car to your "flavor" and i dont see why these links woul void warranty
