SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Sl63 Status/Debut Date

Out Of Control!!
I can't imagine the E and lower classes having the same HP as the SL,CL, & S. The current 5.5 motor has a lower HP rating in the E than the other 3 cars. Some people say that they are the same and some say there is a difference in exhaust and intake systems to justify the difference. Either way, I can't believe AMG or MBZ would make all of them the same output.

What changes are in store for the SL600
I appreciate the updates on the SL550 and SL63AMG but have not heard much about the SL600. Any ideas of what will happen with the V-12 and will it keep the SL600 designation?

The SL63 will be turbocharged, period.
..and if you can't wait just get an SL600/65 and send the ECU to RENNtech, that should satisfy your need for speed.

The latest I've heard (that was firm enough to believe in) - and this was back in August, so obviously things could have moved forward since then - concerning the SL63 was that it would receive a facelift, that it would keep SBC for now, and that it would get the AMG 510 hp M156 E 63 Sauger V8. It was also said that this engine would be implemented into most of the rest of the AMG model line up over time. Nothing about turbos or superchargers.....

I'm awatchin' and awaitin'........
I know that whatever it is, that it'll be good. Heck, even just the 6.3 is good, really....
But my rational mind, my heart, my velocitus libido, and my experience with AMG all tell me that they should be working on something other than just leaving us with the new 6.3 and the existing biturbo V12....
To me though, at this point in time, it is all just (hopeful) conjecture until we get some more definative news.
Until then.....

Ok, so based on what people have said so far, for 2007 model year:
SL500 -> SL550
SL55 AMG -> SL63 AMG
Then what happens to the SL65 AMG? and does that mean my budget for buying a SL55 @ around $130k MSRP is now going to be $150k MSRP w/ dealer prices being $200k MSRP like when the SL65 AMG first came out?

You can always expect a little markup by the dealer when a new bodystyle or engine comes out, but it shouldn't hurt that badly. When they announced the pricing for the new '07 S550 when it arrives in Feb., it was actually <less> than the current S-Class's pricing.
Miracles never cease to happen, but then again, AMG is where they know they can hike the price.

So if I'm looking to get a SL55, it makes no sense to wait because for the 2007 model year, it won't exist anymore?
If so, when is generally the last time you can place an order for a 2006 model?
I don't have 180 to plunk down for a car.

Do you have a good sale guy at a dealership you can check with? If not, PM me and I'll refer you to my guy at Laguna, since you live in Irvine. I've referred a couple of buddies who buy AMGs and he gets them the car they want within a reasonable period of time...without ripping their faces off in the process by charging way over sticker....

Please don't misunderstand me -- I must have missed the -55 part and was thinking -65. I figure MSRP on an S65 to start in the 180's. I am not the smartest guy in the world, and I am no soothsayer -- but I don't think that a 2007 SL63, if that is the way it goes with no SL55, will base with an MSRP of over 150...but that is just my guess. I think anything higher would be too high. And if I were to bet (which I don't) I would guess at an MSRP starting in the 130's, even if it is the mid to high 130's.
We don't know, guys! We do not know how it is going to change.....

How would that make sense? No way they will lower the base of a brand new model. They may discount if they don't sell well but MSRP will surely be in the 180's. We will see.

I have not read anything definitive by MBUSA that would confirm that the CL, S, and SL will in fact get a TT version of the 6.3, however I know such an engine to be in the works. I'm guessing it will be one of the two TT 6.3's or a TT version of the new 5.5L that debuts in the S550. Nothing else really in the pipeline.

I have heard more than a few times over the last 6 months to a year that the 5.5 S/C will remain in the SL line-up as the SL55. But I also heard alongside that that the E55 was also going to keep that motor. Now I hear that the E63 with the 6.3 is a-coming this year....
So, I must return to my fallback position of late - which is - I am just going to have to wait and see what actually happens.
Kind of like, "Show me the money" -- but in this case it's, "Show me the motor!". LOL
I do appreciate the info and your post, TECHNICIAN, thanks.

So the new E63 owners can FINALLY and HONESTLY say that their AMG sleds make equal HP to a SL55. Bravo...
