I have been reading about mark-ups for SL 55 and SL 500 cars in the States. Switzerland is swarming with SL 55 and 500 for immediate delivery.
I have just received my SL 55 last week. Shipping costs to the US should be bearable. Why don't you look at www.car4you.ch. You will find an index of available new and used cars, that holds roughly 25 500 SLs and 10 55 SLs, for immediate delivery. Prices are quoted in Swiss francs and Euros (right now the exchange rate is 1 Euro to the Dollar).
Prices include 7.6% VAT (Value Added Tax) which will be removed for overseas shipment. This tax is certainly less that it would cost you to ship it to the US by air freight, so the saving should be remarkable.

Davide where do you live? In america the worry is whether or not MBUSA will allow dealers to perform warranty repairs on a vehicle not destined for the states. Sure these prices are attractive, but the shipping cost a lot, and what about the conversion process? what's the cost of that?
