My feeling is that it's the "varied" testing standards that are part of the reason for the discrepancies among owners, as well as a tendency for people to recall better results and shrug off those that don't meet or beat expectations (the analogy is a gambler who will talk about every time he wins but seems to forget when or not mention when he loses).
