Is it possible to change the old (2004-smaller screen) COMMAND to a new (2005-the bigger screen) COMMAND? If yes, where can you go to change it

You can cchange to the new system. cost for the system without labor is around 2-2.5K. But, you will need to have the center consule paneling trim piece changed to the new one as well, that may be close to 1k... You can get your customs guy to do it for you but he will need to have connections to an MB computer system to link and reset the COMMAND functions from the steering whell... kinda like a programing thing.. not cheap... I looked into doing it but opted to keep my older one with the smaller screen (04') and just got a video upgrade with a separate external DVD player.

Before you do that .. if you have integrated phone or CD changer, or the BOSE sound system, it wont work with the new DVD based COMAND - this is because the old system uses different fibreoptics (D2B) to the new one (MOST).

Also, somehow you need to find out if your cluster can support the DVD based COMAND (since it displays messages on the CLUSTER) vs the CD based COMAND. I *think* my MY2004 one can - but I dont plan to do this change as I have phone. CD and BOSE :-)

Are you sure? I was looking into doing that to my o4 as well and I was told that I have to change out the entire wiring/cabling from d2b to MOST which cost way more then $2.5k. Did you find a way of doing that without changing out the whole system?

I have a 2005 center console (burlwood) that I'd be willing to sell pretty cheap if you decide to go that route.
