An electric motor lost it's head

Can any of you people throw some light on the following problem.

Got home last night in my SL55, switched off the ignition but an electric motor
as you face the car to the right front I think just down from the headlights was really wirling away at speed making a big clatter.

There was no errors on the dash. The only way to stop it was disconnect the
rear battery.

Found out looks like its one of two pumps for the supercharger one is an air pump the other is a cooling water pump. It seems whilst washing around the wheel arch water flowed down an air duct and the motors are not well protected.

Thanks.
