Best exhaust and engine sound.

Can anyone with experience give me some suggestions on getting a really sporty increase in sound from the exhaust and engine. I am not willing to lose hp by losing back-pressure and I don't want it stupid loud. Ideally a catalytic bypass and sport exhaust from a trusted source and maybe airfilter housing? Any ideas?

check with vrus in the e55 section. he is working on a carbon-fibre intake box and front exhaust section that will both be dyno tested.

The stock SL55 sound is really nice and throaty and if you want more, get the Kleeman headers. They will get you about another 50 HP as well as a better sound. A hard combo to beat. Going for the K2 is not a lot more and will net you about another 50 hp.

Scruffyone, did you do the Kleeman headers and the K2 on yours? I think I saw your video and it sounded REALLY good. No check engine problems or anything?

Yes, the K2. The headers delete the front cats but leave the rear cats in. When the ECU is flashed the limits are also changed and the car does not "see" any issues. At the motor vehicle inspection they just plug into the cars system and look for errors. The sound is just a tiny bit louder when doing easy driving or cruising. When you put your foot into it is another story. No problems other than the initial height sensor issue, and the car has learned it's new parameters and drives better than when I picked it up.
