best tires for SL 55
Thus far all sl 55s have been delivered with front and rear Pirelli P Zero asimmetricos for both front and rear tires.
My dealer told me that a customer wanted Michelin Pilots and he was obliged.
Does anyone know of other tires that have been used with the car, either by the factory or afterwards?

I was confirming my SL55 order for November build with my UK dealer last week and asked him to specify Michelins. He said it was not possible for customers to choose tyres and claimed that MB Germany either fitted one specific tyre type per model (such as Pirelli P Zero for SL55) or, where MB recommended alternatives, fitted whatever tyre they happened to negotiate a bulk deal on at the time.

I know my sales manager quite well and when i bought my SLK sport, it came with continentals, i asked my SM to switch the tires to michelin pilot sports, and he said no problem, but i don't know if he asked the factory to do it or had a set of michelins in stock, OR switched them with a CLK 430's tires. I recall all CLK 430's came with Michelins.

I wouldn't worry about what tires the car comes with. The car is going to eat tires - the rears putting all that power down on the road, the fronts carrying the steering and bulk of the braking load. You'll be in the position of specifying whatever tires you want soon enough.
