I've seen a few body shops use black paint....
They dilute it down to the shade you want, then spray them.
Best way, IMO, is pull yours out, ship them to www.smokedlamps.com

FORK OVER $150 at Dealership...
I went to Atlanta Classic Cars in Atlanta and their customization dept. has a pro paiter they use. I'm sure most dealers do. Cost me $150 and I could choose what part of the tails, and the grade of darkness. I love em, they are perfectly smooth, shiney, even coats done with Pneumatic Gravity Brush.
To me it was worth the cash to have them look perfect.
