03 SL500 Questions

Hello.

Have a few questions for you pros

I'm thinking about picking up this 03 SL500 with 18k miles, however, i have a few concerns. The warranty on it runs out in a year, am i about to venture into a whole bag of problems It also has the old CDROM nav, how much crappier is that then the current DVD navs for simple destination entrys? It's a CPO from a dealer btw.

Anything else i should know about 03 SL500s would be appreciated, thanks

I have an '03 which I bought used and absolutely love. I've had it for about a year and it's been extremely reliable but consensus seems to be that the '03s have significantly more repair issues than later models. I did buy it Certified Pre-Owned from a dealer because getting the extended warranty was important to me.

The 03-vintage navigation system has two limitations that get in my way. First, in map-mode, it doesn't show the names of cross streets like most current generation nav systems. In full navigation-mode (that is, when you ask it to provide turn-by-turn directions) it will display the cross streets where you are supposed to turn, though. Second, when you drive across regions you have to swap CDs. To me, those are nuisances rather than show stopper issues but others might feel differently.

Good luck with your decision!
