SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Transmission leak

Transmission leak
9200 miles on the odometer, and a significant leak (any leak on a modern car is significant) was spilling fluid onto my garage floor. Dealer fixed it with a smile, but I am bothered by this. Cars should not do this, period.
Anybody else had this experience? Dealer said that it was truly a manufacturing defect, and that the replacement of the gasket and seal on the transmission cover will take care of the issue. I have to wonder if somebody was not in the tranny at some point in the past....
