Question Euro Delivery & Tire Pressure Monitors

Hi,

Two unrelated topics. First, is Euro delivery available on the SL55?

Second, the dealer tells me that the tire pressure monitoring system is very unreliable and needs frequent repair. Is this correct?

hmmm

Don't know about the Euro deliver for U.S. customers but the tire pressure monitoring system is fine based on all the cars I've seen. One person I know even told me of how it alerted him after he hit a big pothole and some air went out of the tire. His rim got only slightly bent on the inner side as opposed to the face we see from the outside. He just topped up some air and was on his way. However, if you change the rim you have to get another rim with the pressure sensor or monitor on that rim as well otherwise you won't get any readings. Plus it takes a few minutes of driving to get the display to show you the pressure each time you reset it. All in all I believe it is useful if you are running low profile tires.

European Delivery of SL55

I'm aware of an SL55 that is being picked up on European Delivery in December so to answer your question, yes the European Delivery center in Sindelfingen is capable of same. (They simply bring the cars down from Bremmen.) MBUSA had a brief window open allowing placement of orders of SL's for European Delivery. I believe this applied to both SL500's and the 55's. The day I picked up my SL500 there were two of us getting SL's at the Sindelfingen European Deliverey Center. Whether that window has or will open again is unknown to me. Ask four different dealers and you will get four different answers ranging from yes they can do it, but they won't because it cuts into their allocation to its only available for the owners of the dealership. In any event you won't see European delivery of the SL's on the Mercedes website so it is something you have to work out with your own individual dealer at this point.

tyre pressure monitoring

I have driven 2000 km with SL55 which I imported from Germany.
Up to now , I am happy with the tyre pressure monitoring system.

Two times I checked the pressure with a digital pressure meter
and compared the data with the monitor's . I was satisfied.

I have no tire pressure monitor on mine, however i can state that with my former Porsche 996 turbo inflationg the tires with Nitrogen made them retain pressure ten times longer. I have done the same to my SL 55 5 days ago, and have not checked them yet. If it works it make the gauge totally useless.
