The M6 is definitely faster 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile.
The SL55 has a lower CD (0.30 versus 0.32). As a result the SL55 should have the higher maximum velocity and could be faster from, say, 0 MPH to 200 MPH or in the standing mile.
BTW, everytime I see one of your posts I think to myself, he should change his username to "BoCanada."

What do you base this data on?
The best time I have seen for a M5 in the 1/4 mile is 12.5 at 114.75. At what track and when have you seen an M6 trap at 120mph. We should document it if that is the case.
Enzom ( a board member) has run a 11.9 @117mph. His car is stock. I have never seen an M6 run 11s stock or modded..

M6 vs SL55
I would not be so sure on that fact.
Been looking for one of these Beemers to test this on.
But not many of them on the road. Even here in So Cal.
M6 data sheet says 0-60 in 4.5 Secs.
SL55 spec says 0-60 in 4.4 Secs.
M6 has the ponies in the V10. 500+
But is lacking in the torque department. 380 vs 500+
M6 has higher redline 8500. So maybe quicker at super high speed
Like from 130 MPH on up. Not sure on the weight difference.
SL55 is pretty damn heavy.
Anybody out there have some "real world" experience with this question ?

Though this is not completely relevant, I remember a clip from Top Gear when they were comparing a porsche 911, v8 vantage, and the M6. The M6 though extremely fast, its hard to utilize all 500 ponies. You have to go into the computer and select the type of driving style you would like.

I looked at that Top Gear tape.
Damn. BMW has made that car so complicated. What a POS.
Does anybody on this board really own one of these things ?
I love technology. But you got to be kidding.

I dont think it is that much complicated its just people make big thing out of it, you programm it once and then you just press one button and everything is there for you. And that episode was in wet i bet M6 had no traction.

It would be problematic for a stock SL55 to match those times BUT it's a reasonable question to ask whether anyone else has duplicated the C&D times.

Fair enough. I was leaning completely on the Car and Driver test which produced a 4.1 0-60 and 12.4 quarter mile trapping at 121 for the M6. (http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtest...ecs-page3.html)

Looks very close indeed. Mid 12`s. 115 MPH. For both cars stock.
Going to depend very much on the driver and tires at the 1/4 mile.
BMW is going to need to catch that shifting perfect against SL55.

It's definitely not a POS. It's a beautiful car, however I'm more of a Benz than Bimmer man. I also thought the 6's interior was a little lackluster, but that's just my opinion. It's also under 100k, which my beloved 55 is not...

M6 is 5-star car
Yeah, modded SL55 would be faster in a straightline certainly in 1/4 mile but above 100 the M6 flies so the BM would probably still win that as it beat a K4 E55 and can do 205mph derestricted.
The M6 is stunning and is an awesome nearly-new buy- i'm joining the M6 club next summer and i'm already wishing away the days.

OK It not a POS.
But I can see someone fumbling with the settings at a red light
to make sure wifey had not changed them before engaging
the throttle at the green. Seems a bit silly.
It seemed rather complicated to get the correct settings
and those silly Brits were really fumbling around with it that clip.
It just seems a bit over enginerred IMHO.
I have a good customer that has his new 5 Series
in the dealership more than he drives it. Lots of electrical
issues. I think he is about to "lemon it". That may have something
to do with my lack of trust in BMW`s new technologies.
And all the M3 kiddies driving insane down here in So Cal.
Please acccept my humble apology.
