Help! There is no thrust in my 600..!

Well, compared to an 190E it still is fast, but not as it should.

I mean, the car's supposed to have 500hp, and 800Nm of torque stock, and
I bought it in Germany at a MB dealership, with only 62000 Km (99000 miles).

And on my way back home from Germany, I had it tuned for 1200,- €uros.
The german company that tuned it said it's now 578hp, and 910Nm.
And he told me not to be disappointed at first, because it'll take a 4-5 hours drive before the car adjusts to all the new data, and have full effect.

But the thing is, when I clocked the car a week later (with a G-Tech, and a stop watch, I was PRETTY disappointed!

From 0-100 km/h (or 62 m/h) it took 5,2 s..! Stock does it in 4,7 s.
From 0-200 km/h (125 m/h) it took 19 s..! Stock does it in 15 s.
1/4 mile in 13,7 s, with an end speed at 172 km/h (107,5 m/h)..!
Pretty embarrasing, wouldn't you say..?!
Especially, since it suppose to lack only 34hp to a 65 AMG!
Something is terribly wrong here..!

I directly called the german tuner. And he said;
-"There must have been something wrong with the car in the first place, before the tuning".
I said that I couldn't tell, since the drive before the tuning wasn't long enough.

So, he told me to take it to the MB dealer where I live, to have it examined.
I did, and they told me that the separate cooling system for the intercoolers, had an "air pocket". That means, the temperature there is to hot, and that means, that the car lowers the turbo pressure automaticly.
Makes sense, doesn't it?
Well, they fixed that, and they also replaced a circulation pump there.
But, it didn't help!!!

So now what..? Does anyone have a clue..?
Or a simular car, so you please can clock that one, for comparason...
I'm desperate here.

Best regards,
maxabo.

Sorry to hear that. Do you have a dyno around? I would have the tuner flash it back to stock and see what it does. Maybe the software is no good.

BiTurboAmg: What does that mean, dyno around it..?
Do you mean this extra wheel they use in tests?
In that case no, I use this device you put on the windshield that messures 0-62m/h and the 1/4 mile.
And for the other messurements I used a stop watch. But there, when the tacho says 200 km/h, I probably have only 190-195 in real speed because all tachos tend to show a bit more, you know.
So 19 sekunds to 200 is probably pretty optimistic to...

To put it back to stock, certainly would be interresting! But it's a 7 hour drive one way. Perhaps I can send the box, or something.
Do you think there can be differencies in different tuning-versions, allthough they all say 578hp and 910Nm..?

Question

There are many factors when the horsepower for the 600 and the 65 are on the down side.

a) Check the sensors around the engine bay, there are 7 of them i think. Inform your dealership to have it check out. Bad sensor readings might lead to HP decrease.

b) Charge intake air temps. Make sure the charge intake air temps are normal. Anything above normal indicates air pockets in the intercooler system. Bring to the nearest dealership to have the intercooler bled. Sometimes you need to do this more than once.

c) Could be tuning problem ? Who tuned your car?

The company that made the tuning for me is called Digituning (www.digituning.de).
The dealer here told me that they removed a big air pocket. But since you're telling me, that it sometimes has to be done again, I'll check that out.
But these sensors you mensioned, wouldn't they show on the diagnostic test? Becasuse there aren't any failures shown there...

By the way, I got the translating from kilometers to miles all wrong. The car has only gone 38500 miles...

One good indication is charge intake air temp. If you have a STAR portable in hand, go WOT with the STAR portable hooked up. You can check if there's still air pockets in the intercooler system. Remember, sometimes you need to bleed the system twice or even thrice. Also, check for the air pressure sensors around the intake. Usually that dont trigger any check engine light.

You should call Oliver Neumann or Jimmy Pelka @ www.evotech.de. They have the best software for the 600/65.
