Exclamation Kleeman releasing supercharger upgrade for SL55!! (610 h.p.)

Hey guys,

Just got off the phone with Kleeman at their Colorado Springs Headquarters. They are currently developing a replacement supercharger for your SL55 and my incoming CL55.

Check my CL55 post for more details, but its going to be 610h.p. and will be available in January. Prototype is already on the SL55 in Denmark.

This is the original mail received from MOVIT (www.movit.de) concerning Kleemann:

"
hi Andrea - today i thought on you. the chief mechanic of www.kleemann.dk is here for brakes.
he drives a 500 sl with the kleeman compressor. (same hp as the amg) the car has 20" wheels.
I would like to say you , do NOT buy those. You will feel a business card if you drive over it. "

I think that the same results, in term of "driving pleasure" you can reach with a 610 HP !!!!!

Don't forget that we are talking about a wonderfull car (not to much sport) not a dragster.
When you reach that power level you have some problem to keep the car on the road

:p :p :p

Bye

Andrea

IMO sl55 is perfect at the origin, change wheel or tuning the engine could radical change the car and his driving feeling.

My sl55amg is perfect and the only upgrade could be the removal of speed limit, no more.

In Italy, with a 19" or a 20" you will have some problem on raining day and in winter time. And a 610 HP could generate more rumors (probably not so agreable as the original) and a lot of problem to use that dragster-power.

Of course it's only my opinion and I report the feed-back of my friends who suggest me "don't change wheel" on my car.

Bye

i agree, the SL55 is good as it is!

only change i would accept is the change to the 19" AMG double-spoke wheels combined with tyres that are capable for 300km/h

btw:
found some nice (german) infos and pics here:

I urge avoid tire changes, as for Kompressor bost...

Tires and rims have been the number one problem on my current CLK55, and I am running stock 17" rims. I very much agree with the point that changing to 18, 19, 20 inch rims will make "running over a business card" unduly noticable. That are no shortage of posts in the CLK forums by people that have changed to 18" or 19" rim-tire sets, hit a pothole, and are sorry.

As for a power bost, I thank that is doable if one does a reasonable risk-benefit analysis. I have the MBZ 100K warrantee on my CLK55. An aftermarket Kompressor would probably void that, but I figure MBZ must have engineered in a substantial safety margin. And I figure the same goes for the SL55. If MBZ is confident with it at 493HP there is probably another 20% that can easily be had without too much risk.

You are right rroberts but just before to consider the "warranty problem" for me it's a "drive feeling".
This month, italian auto magazine test the new dodge viper.
In my mind that car is perfect for 600 and more HP not the SL55 that is perfect just as come out of the factory.
Am also agree with Felix cause the only change to do is to fix the 19" inch (AMG is wonderfull !!!) but I wait to do this.
And I'm still waiting to remove the delimiter.
My car has only 3.000 km.

Bye
