SL55/S55/CLK500
Dealer called me yesterday...
they say they have a SL55 that someone did not buy b/c of financial reasons so he calls me and says "these things go for about 200k these days, how much would you offer me?" I am #8 on the list for one and will be getting it sometime next year so im not really intrested.
Question is: Are MB dealers allowed to sell unregisterd cars over MSRP and ask customers to "bid" on it?

Price fixing and antitrust
This has been discussed before. Apparently Mercedes has a policy that discourages dealers from selling newly allocated cars over MSRP. However, for Mercedes to require dealers to only sell at MSRP would apparently constitute price fixing in violation of antitrust laws. The dealers are also "educated" that it is in their best interests to sell at MSRP to foster customer goodwill and customer loyalty. Whether the "policy" is enforced by subtle rewards and benefits to the various dealers I don't know.
