Actually here is the owners email address: neal@euroteckmotorsports.com

Let him know that you have a SL55 and you have the need for speed

I believe he has the RENNtech pulley and chip upgrades, as well as the carbon fiber airbox.

I installed the RennTECH pulley, throttle body, carbon fiber air box and the ECU reflash on my SL55. The difference is night and day with the only problem being that it is near impossible to get it to hook up. The next mod is going to be the limited slip differential.

Have you done any research on which LSD to get?
My friend also wants to do the same thing and I'm kind of pulled apart between the Kleemann LSD or going custom.

Robert (my friend) and I installed the RennTech Pulley on my 05' SL55 and also had RennTech flash the computer for that mod. We then installed the RennTech 2nd Intercooler/Heat Exchanger and upgraded IC pump........car is just like the man said above.......Night and Day difference.

The Larger IC pump and 2nd Intercooler serve to remove the additional heat generated with the Pulley/ECU change.........extra power always makes more heat........

Next we are looking at the Throttle Body........

(Car has 4975 miles.......barely broken in..)

I am considering the Kleeman or Quaife. I have heard good things about Quaife and the procing seems to very good.

I went with the Kleeman K2. Like the others, traction is a problem. Gotta love the sound at WOT with the stainless steel headers though.

2007 SL55 Renntech Stage 3
There has to be a decent way to launch these upgraded machines. The E55 guys do the same upgrades. Do they have the same hook up problems. If not what are they doing different. I have Renntech ECU, headers and pulley. Not quite broke in yet, but I can already tell this thing is going to be hard on tires. Anyone had success on how to launch without either burning up the tires or having ESP shut you down.

I follow the E55 forum and, yes, their cars have the same hook-up issue. The general advice is to feather the throttle at launch and not go WOT until the tires hook up. One guy in particular (wish I could recall his username to give him credit) suggested taking about one second to reach WOT.

The folks who are most serious about improving their times tend to install LSDs and use drag radials at the track.

I'm heading to the track tonight to play with the launch a little. It does OK just stomping on the gas and letting TC do it's thing, but the 60s suck. Tonight I'm going to try both feathering to the floor and flooring it then backing off 20% for a second before getting into it again. I'm thinking the second approach will work best because it will cut a better light.

I'll let you know how it goes...

Has anyone on here actually installed an LSD on the SL55? If so, what make, where did you get it and what was the cost? How did it work out for you? What differences did you notice? Would the ones used on the E55 be the same?

NSM, Let us know how it works for you.

AMGBenz, as far as I know the upgrades available are not any different for the 030 package vs. not having the 030 package. You can do ECU only, ECU and pulley, ECU, pulley and headers, ECU, pulley, headers and TB, etc. Depends on what you want and what your budget is.

On my stock 06 E55, I got the best times just coming out at idle (don't load up the car at the line) and just squeezing the throttle... don't slam it down, just squeeze it quickly from 0-100%. I've gone 12.11 on a 1.81 short time.

I don't have any mods, my car is as stock as it can be. I have DRs on the car now, but I only saw .05 improvement from my previous best of 12.16 that I ran on my stock 265 Continentals. I think my lack of an LSD prevents me from getting adequate heat in both drag radials. Also, I think I had a tank of bad gas or something, since my MPH was a few mph lower than my last trip in the fall.

When I ran the 12.11, I ran another 7 passes in the 12.1s.

Here's my post in the E55 forum - link to post in 211 E55 forum.

Wayne, those are pretty good times for stock, plus sounds like there may be a pretty driver there too since you can get consistent runs.

Sounds like LSD would help you. I would like to find out what the options are there and how the car responds to them. I will try to do a little research on it. Any info is apreciated.

Yeah, I wish Wayne was available to drive my car when we get finished,

just to get an ET slip that tells what is going on......I would love to see a low-11 second quarter in that car........

My launching skills are mediocre, at best..........I usually either bog or spin........

Wayne would show what is there, IMO.

Seems like it is pretty divided as to whether LSD would really help in a straight line since it is only 30%. More seem to think there is no real advantage than there are that think it would help.

I installed a quaife on my 440hp C32. The difference was night and day. You still can't go WOT right off the line without wheel spin, but it sure does help. You really notice it when gunning it from a slow roll. Previously I would still have to feather it or ESP would shut the fun down. Now I can gun it from a slow roll without any traction issues. Also, the car behaves very well when the tires start to spin. Previously, the car would pull to a side and then ESP would come on. I can now spin the tires for some time before ESP gets mad.

Getting Quaife Mid April. Trying to arrange a group thing in Houston area. Doesn't seem to be much interest, but seems to be the next step for me.
