Wax now or later?

I remember being told to not wax a brand new car, but to let the paint "cure" for a few months. This is probably an antiquated tale but I'd like to hear what others think. And what do people swear by when it comes time to protect the finish?

Feel free to wax your car!

I use Finish First every few weeks, and make sure that I do paint cleaning clay several times/year.

What color is your car? If it is black i would not touch it for about 6 months minimum OR until it looks like it needs it. The reason being is that the paint will swirl/spider-web really e-z and the car won't look too good unless you bring it to a pro. Even then they (black) don't come back to life too good.

If it is another color (especially non-dark colors) you are fine. The question is what is the upside in a wax so early (especially if the car is brand new) other than a nice afternoon with some beers, radio listening to a ballgame, enjoying the weather (been there, done that lots, and it is my own "therapy/sactuary).

05 SL 55 AMG, 01 Turbusa/8.43 @ 183..1/4 mi.
I was told 5-7 weeks..............depending upon how much sun the car was exposed to...........lighter colors sooner..........darker colors later........
