BMW M6 vs SL55 AMG (Video) !
I've bought my 2007 SL55 and had an ecu remapping done by the dealer for free (MKB)..I did race an M5 from a dig,the best i achieved is to keep equal untill 80-100 km/h and then i'm kept in DUST.I did read here in the forum that the 55's are faster than the M's.I'm really dissapointed with my car with only 5000 km .I did race other E55's which are STOCK and my car was slightly faster due to the remap,so nothing is wrong with my car .
The looks of the SL is nice,i love the car,but i would have bought the M6 since it has same looks (even better)..that Carbon Fiber roof and a much much better engine. No Idea who to blame, guys i love all cars as i'm a car enthusiast, some of you here in the board were mentioning that 55's are much faster than M5/6,and stated it as a fact which i believed.
The reason i posted today is that i was spanked by an M5 by maybe 8-9 car lengths from a dig to about 200-220 km/h,when we stopped at the traffic light he was laughing at me and had another 2 passengers with him (extra kg's)..guys i'm really dissappionted.
take a look at this video.. its a modified SL as well

I say this with trepidation as this was your first post and you could very well be a troll. In fact every newbie on this board is a troll until proven otherwise, but all said, an SL55 is a VERY HEAVY car compared to an E55 or CLS55, and from the looks of it you're in europe where the M cars are faster due to launch control, so these results aren't all that shocking.

Can someone tell me why the heck the SL weighs so damn much? I mean I know the roof assembly is heavy but 4365 LBS is ridiculous

LOL.
Per Dragtimes, stock M6s have logged 12.5 and 12.6 second 1/4 miles with a trap speed of 115 MPH. The range for SL55s is a little wider: 12.5 to 13.0 second 1/4 miles with trap speeds of 107 MPH to 116 MPH.
The two cars would run neck-and-neck up to at least 110 MPH - 115 MPH, which equals 177 KPH to 185 KPH.
If someone has an SL55 that really cannot keep up with a stock M6 after just 80 KPH - 100 KPH and falls an amazing 8-9 car lengths behind at 200 KPH - 220 KPH, then something would have to be REALLY wrong with the 55K engine.

I dont think so. Something smells here.
After watching that bad quality video a couple
times. Looks to me like that SL55 shut down early.
Also it seemed they were just getting to around 100 MPH
from the wind noise and the manner which objects are
being passed.
As stated earlier. Someone trolling on a first post.
M6 and SL55 should be close to neck and neck.

For comparison's sake, a BMW M6 coupe weighs 3,909 lbs dry (http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/M/m6coupe/techdata.htm) while a BMW M6 convertible weighs 4,398 lbs dry (http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/M/m6c...e/techdata.htm).
So the soft top M6 vert actually weighs more than the hard top SL55.
With a coupe or sedan the fixed roof provides structural rigidity. Convertibles require extra bracing underneath to make up for the loss of the fixed roof. As you can see from the BMW numbers, the extra bracing adds many hundreds of pounds to the vehicle weight.
There are lighter convertibles, e.g. the SLK55, but it's a much smaller car (17 inches shorter and 9 inches narrower) so it uses a lot less steel plus the SL55's supercharger also adds to the weight difference.

Maybe its the Driver
If every race was only about the car, race car drivers would not be so famous. sometimes its not the car at all. maybe the driver of the SL should give up trying to be a race car driver and just continue to enjoy that he has one of the most beautiful cars on the road that happens to also be fast. If you are looking just to race. go by a kit made race car. Oh, and how do you know the M6 didn't have mods if you didn't even know the guy ?

your kidding right???? My car has an auto tranny and we raced in a straight line..So may i subscribe to your racing lessons Mr. schumacher ?
BTW i would never come close to an ///M or an RS4 on a track..you all now why . As stated above i have a nice fast car and i'm enjoying it.
Edit: I did not race an ///M6,i raced an ///M5 which is a bit slower as claimed .The video i posted wasnt me,i wish my SL is as fast as the one in the video although spanked

SL55 does not get any substantial performance increase from being "chipped", einstein. The only way to increase boost on SL55 is by changing a supercharger pulley. You gained at most 10hp from your ecu remap and air filter

This guy is a troll from M5board close this thread.
P.s here whats moded SL55 looks like vs M6
http://videos.streetfire.net/Player....7-17F01F985487
Yes M6 is way faster from a roll and in upper speed, but then again SL55 is pretty old car/technology. Just wait another year or two
p.s on a long run i'd still pick SL55 just beacause it WILL last longer without problems, unlike m5/m6 where you need new tranny every year or two.

Spielburg has nothing to worry about, judgeing by the production quality of that video.
I think the 'freebie' ECU tune was worthless. My ECU tuned SL55 makes mince meat of GT3s and hangs with Z06s at the track.
Looks like a troll to me!

No offense but judging by your use of words and terms you do seem a little like a troll , if your not i am sorry
If you think an M3 can actually beat a 55k then god help you ^^.
You also have the 2007 sl55 which should have a revised SC yes? does that not mean more power?

I think you came to the wrong place to cry about your supposed weak car. Your lack of knowledge coupled with your anus dripping of BMW motor oil will not find you sympathy here. So you got your *** handed to you, probably as usual, but since that really doesnt happen to anyone here i dont know what to tell you pal. Oh while your whimpering over your loss, go over to www.dragtimes.com and peruse the time slips and dyno figures, should be a good read. Good luck!!!
