Also, theboogers, are you also considering getting a Quaife after you do your cams?

Sunil,

I need a Quaife for my W203 non-amg rear diff. Can you tell me if Autotech/Quaife has an appropriate ATB diff for my W203? They have 2 versions, 210 axle and 215 axle. I think my car might use the 210 axle version. Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Also, did you install a Quaife on the K32 sedan?

Looking
Any Chicago area tuners that know how to do this? I'm getting the Renntech mods on my SL600 , the ECU/TCU and intercooler upgrade, next week. Also, my 20" monolites (from ebay) are also due in. I'd like to put the power to the pavement, not just spin the wheels.

Thanks,
David Shapiro

Hey guys,

I've been doing a search LSDs, and all I can find are teh Quaife and Kleemann. Is there really a major difference between the Quaife and Kleemann?

Can anybody provide any input?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sunny

When you find out, please let me know....

I'm trying to mod my CLK55, but there just aren't any direct roadmaps...

All I know is that the Kleemann is an LSD and basically has a locking mechanism for the spider gears. I think similar to the good 'ol Phantom Grip from my ricer days:

http://www.phantomgrip.com/

The problem with these were that if you didn't put them in right- it could be a very costly mistake.

The Quaife is an ATB, which is a torque biasing limted slip diff. (although they sometimes don't call it an LSD)

http://www.nolimitmotorsport.com/quaife/

I guess it's more like a Torsen diff (AWD cars use Haldex). These are geared torque sensitive diffs rather than clutch-type torque sensitive diffs and speed sensitive diffs like viscous-coupling LSDs.

http://www.torsen.com/products/T-3.htm

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you get a straight answer about the Kleemann versus Quaife.

I ain't putting one of these into my ride until someone stands up and says- "I've got XYZ and it's allowed for me to drive my car like I stole it and everything still works."

Just an comment.

I put a Quaife LSD in my modified SL55. I had reprogram, pulleys, headers, free flow cats, etc.. done at the same time.

The MB installer said I was wasting my money on the LSD. After I had everything installed, he said it was the nicest improvement on the car.

Sunil, how should we expect to pay for the labour work?
LSD makes a big difference while driving very fast, you can control the rear end in a much amuzing and safe maner. And for power slides it´s just amazing, you literely have the rear end slide controled with your right foot, car has much more linear behavier. I drove several Porsche with and without LSD and while turning on 45ª curves the car without the LSD would loose part of power on the inside rear wheel, while the car with LSD would transfer the power for the outside rear wheel, giving you more power and speed while turning.

Ted,

I was in ATL a few weeks back and tried to call you with no luck. I can install Quaife units in Houston and Detroit. I would have to recommend shops in other cities.

I am doing one on Monday in CLS63 and we have done a few on different 55s.

Makes the cars so much easier and more enjoyable to drive.

In my book it is the first mod for any AMG car.

............Sorry I must have been in the middle of relocating. I relocated to South Florida. I'm having trouble finding competent shops. I am very interested in a recommendation. My number is the same. Thanks.

.......As far as Quaife vs Kleemann, I understand the technical differences. I am wondering if you or anyone will comment on on-the ground differences while driving. I personally have not found the Kleemann LSD, which I currently have to be that much better than stock in controlling wheel spin on my s/ced W210 E55. However I 'm no expert.

Ted

2007 SL55 Renntech Stage 3
Can't comment on the Kleenman, but I have the Quaife and think it is great. I can still break the tires loose with Stage 3 Renntech, but at least they both pull now. I especially like being able to steer some with the thottle. Without LSD, the car would just sit there and spin with ESP off and cut the throttle with it on. Now I just turn it off when I plan to get on it and only let up myself if it starts to spin too much. I find if I don't just floor it from a stop and kind of step into it, the spin is pretty minimal depending on the road of course. Great product. Sunil did my install and did a great job.

Old post - same topic.

Quaife vs 030? I have not purchased yet and so I am looking at an 030. I can get a nicer, lower mileage non-030 but really don't like performance cars without LSD.

And, what's a reasonable labor charge for this?

Thanks

I think my tech said it pays around 6.5 hours, so somewhere in the 500-750 range depending on your tech

I just got a quote for $2K for the diff and labor. That seems a little high if the diff costs $1100 retail plus tax.
