Roof Software

Anybody have direct experience with the"Mods4cars ONE touch module"?
Looks interesting, but I would love a reference or two from an actual customer. Finally, does anybody know of any competing solutions to allow easier roof operation?

Thanks,
Claudio

Just got one installed on my car last night. So far it seems to work just fine. I especially like being able to get out of the car, click lock 3 times on the key and everything closes and locks as I walk away.

Are you serious? Easier roof operation? How hard is it to pull back or push down on the switch? Or hold down the lock/unlock buttons on the key?

It's not hard to press and hold the button. It's just convenient not to have to and to start it closing and walk away knowing it will close and lock. Or opening it as you are walking towards it so it is open when you get to it. Just convenience. Nothing more.

Thumbs up Easy installation and convenience!!

I installed my mods4cars roof controller about a month ago and love it. It is especially convenient to be able to put the roof up and down while driving along in traffic. I hate when I was at a stop light and the light turns green before I had the chance to fully put the roof up or down and have people behind me honk and get angry because I couldn't move or the roof would stop. Being able to push the roof button once and not have to hold it down or up while the roof completes it's cycle is great too. I also like the ability to activate the factory horn for the alarm lock / unlock feature. I was always looking at my parking lights to flash to confirm that i locked the car. Now if the horn honks I know its locked!

Are you kidding? Comparing holding back a switch for 16 seconds vs one quick tap and being able to drive at the same time, i'll take the latter.

Not to mention 3 quick taps from the key and you can open/close it from like 40 feet away.

There's a reason it's not supposed to be opened & closed while the vehicle is moving. Not only is it a safety issue, but it can also damage the roof parts. Opening & closing the roof while driving is really just not a good idea at all.

I don't think opening your roof at 5mph on smooth roads does much of anything. Even if you don't use that part of the mod, the convenience of all the other features is great, I don't get why you don't like it

I have installed more than 10 of these modules and they work as advertised. However, programming is not the same on all cars as some cars do not show the menus in the cluster. Don't forget that you can also open both windows by double clicking the roof button twice and vice versa.

............I have purchased one of these units and yet to install it. The unit I have is for coupes and sedans and is meant to control doors, windows, sunroofs via the key fob. I noticed that the list of compatible cars were all those with MOST electronics. Does this matter?

MOST does not matter. It works equally well on d2b based cars.

I got a mods4cars module to remotely open/close the windows and sunroof on my C32. I am very happy with it. Mod4cars' support is excellent too. I thought I had a minor issue, but it turned out to be unrelated. The design engineer helped me several times.

.........where in your c32 did the module plug to? I have a CLk320, and I cannot find the site that the module plugs to. Please help.

The SL 65 didn't like the module, and kept throwing code when we installed it.

The SL has so many complicated electronics that it is not really wise to add any aftermarket electronic modules. Lately, i have seen an ABC system malfunction at 5400 miles.

2007 SL55
Just tried installing mods4cars smartTop in my 2007 SL55. As the above post noted, it genereated a lot of error codes and stopped a lot of systems from functioning (i.e. ac, power windows, speed control, blinkers, etc.). Fortunately, once I removed it everything returned to normal.

According to the installation instructions and LED light, everything was hooked up properly, but nothing worked. I have emailed mods4cars to see if they have additional instructions and or trouble-shooting information for this model/year. I'll post whatever reply I get.

In the meantime, has anyone successfully installed in an SL55 of any model year? If so, what plug did you use?

Thanks,
Cecil

2005 SL55
Partial success...

My installation was per the instructions (sorry I do not remember what plug is listed in the docs, but that is what I used)....

So for my 2005, I was able to get all the advertised end functions to work, but I was never able to get the "programming" of these to work properly. Basically, upon entering the config mode, the car would chirp and blink like crazy, and I could only guess what I was configuring, but not really confim this via the console.
Support was good, and made several efforts to resolve my issues, but ultimately, was not able to "fix" these problems. Regardless, I have been using the software essentially since my original post, and am very happy with the fundamental functionality provided, though not the ability to make all aspects of the product work as expected.

You did not install the module correctly. I have installed several of these modules on many sl55's and sl65's. The module essentially takes the can signal, modifies it, and spits it back to the related modules. If you have lots of problems and many errors pop up, then you most likely have the CAN wires reversed. The SL65 and SL55 electronic are NOT very different at all. The one issue that I have seen is the display in the instrument cluster does not always show the menu feature they have added to their latest software in the module. You can still program the module using the flashing lights as an indicator of which menu item you are programming.

Cecil,

JM55 in the above post has a 2007 SL55 with the mods4cars module that I installed and it works perfectly fine.

Received a quick email reply from Stefan at Mods4Cars. He assured me (as have other posters) that the smartTop would work in my vehicle.

I believe he also diagnosed the problem correctly as closer examination revealed I had indeed wired one of the plugs incorrectly (even after double and triple checking ). Unfortunately, I was not able to remove the pins from the plug without destroying them so I was not able to re-install the module with the correct wiring.

After a search of electronics and automotive stores failed to turn up any appropriate sized pins/plugs, I ordered another wiring harness. I will report (what I hope will be sucess) when it arrives.

Success. Once I got the wiring correct (really pretty simple - my bonehead errors) everything works as advertised including the text display.

As noted by others, Stefan was very helpful and quick to respond.
