SL55 Paddles?

Has anyone figured out how to adapt the shift paddles from the '06-'07 cars to the earlier car.

I also found this on ebay. I can't seem to be able to get anyone to cross reference the part number from the EU to the US. (B-part no: B6 603 7321)Anyone?

I am curious if you could also source a wheel with paddles for a 04 SL600 (and the ballpark price for such a wheel)

I'm ordering one of those wheels as well. When I test drove the 07 65 before I got my 06, I loved the way that steering wheel felt.

I wanted to buy one from the ebay vendor, but when I ask him if it will work...he tells me to talk to an MB tech.

When I call the parts department with the part number from his ad, they can't find it or cross reference it. So I am not sure what to do.

07 wheels will not work with 06 cars. The airbag will fit fine. Shifting will not work due to differences in resistor values of the switches.

ok, i finished adding the paddle shifters to a 06sl55. the 06 sl55 has the same type of shifter on the wheel as the earlier sl55's. THe way those work is having a resistor, diode, normally open and normally closed contact switches. THe newer sl55's (07 and later) have standard switches in the paddles that wire to a control module that contains resistors. You cannot simply plug in the new paddles and expect them to work. THe wiring and components are totally different. I did manage to get the new paddles to work on a earlier sl55 but i had to make my own circuit. I would like to simplify my circuit and produce it. This is the same way it works on the S55 and e55. I did take a pic while I was testing it on my bench. THe only issue some may have is getting the new paddles to physically fit on the old wheel.

Paddles

What type of resistor is needed and how should it be wired? I take it that radio shack has all the required items...

sorry for the delay guys. I have been swamped. There is no additional resistor required. The 100 ohm on the left paddle will be fine unless you get too much heat near it when soldering wires to the board. I will try and simply my circuit so it will be eaiser to install.

Sunil,

On your website, you have a link that mentions upgrading a wheel with larger paddles on a car with smaller paddles. Is that an 06 wheel with the larger paddles you used on an 05 or older car? In other words will an 06 wheel fit an 05 or 04 without the IC changes you mention are needed to upgrade an 06 car with an 07 wheel?

Thanks!

i am fairly certain the small shifters found on amg cars earlier are interchangable. I have not seen enough of them to check but I do know that s55 (w220), s65 (w220), sl55 (r230) e55 (w211) are interchangable before the larger paddles came out.

06 SL paddles are the same as 05 Sl paddles.

Sunil, in a tanget, an you add paddles to a car that did not originally come with any steering wheel shift button (such as a 2004 SL600)?

May be this is a better choice for you guys.... someone like Sunil may be able to confirm whether you could reuse your airbag...

the p30 steering wheel uses the same bag as the CLS, Late w211 E, r230 SL, and w209 CLK.

IF the car did not come with paddle shifting in the first place, it gets very tricky. The tranny module has to be programmed for paddle shifting. If you get a renntech ECU/TCU upgrade first, it make things easy. On Renntech flashed cars, you will notice you can cycle through C/S/M even though the car never had the M mode.

Wow.... it amazes me how tricky electronics can be.... I thought the paddles only replace the buttons and are just cosmetic add-ons.
