Tell me everything there is to know about getting a used SL55

I've been eyeing the 2004-2005 SL55s used, maybe an SL600, and was wondering if you could give a couple of tips/advice/things to look for regarding my purchase. The only thing I am a little nervous about is overall reliability.

I've done a ton of searching here, but was looking for some direct feedback.

Are these cars problematic, or maintenace costs are very high to justify the CPO?

The 55 is less maintenance than the 600, so you made a good choice in that sense. The v12 has more spark plugs when those are due, the 600 tends to have more problems than the 55. Im going to get flamed I know, but Im a dealer and can tell you that 600 sell for less than 55 even though they may be advertised for sale at similar prices. It is definately hard to move them, the 55 has a much better, exhaust, I own one and I bought a 3 year extended warranty for around $3500. I don't know if you own other benzes, but just ask your servie advisor if you do, he should give you 2 or 3 different warranty options to look at.

I wouldn't say that. I think more people buy it for status rather then performance; at least the ones i've seen on the road have all been drivin by old dudes or rich wifes who probably never go WOT.

I would agree....

with you about old guys and rich wives if you were talking SL600's but with SL55, all I see are young dudes with very heavy right feet. Good place to see them are at tire shops every 15k miles.
