I say tint, dark, so people don't know your business, and they just wonder about your business. If you drive an SL they already know you are good at something

Exactly!!!! I always see a bunch of retards driving their SL's with the top down, but all the windows up like idiots.

If you dont want the wind, close the top, the car looks stupid with top down/windows up.

I'm not sure of the %#, but I have medium tint all around, 3M. Not to dark that you can't be seen inside, but enough to look great.

[QUOTE=nick 55;2483259]Why would you have windows up with the top down? Just defeating the purpose a little.

What exactly is the "purpose" that you're referring to? Driving top down with the windows up is actually pretty common and there's several reasons that come to mind:

1. Putting the top down on a convertible is generally done to enjoy open air driving. Unless it's raining the desire to do so is usually temperature driven. With the windows up you can make the cabin area pretty toasty in an SL due to the excellent HVAC at some low ambient temperatures. Alot of people (in Cali at least) drive top-down at night, an experience which is often improved by putting the windows up.

2. The SL wind deflector is designed to work with the windows up and does so superbly but not so well with the windows down; should you actually ever drive the car in question you'll discover this for yourself. While anyone who drives a convertible is willing to accept some wind buffeting, sometimes the drive or a passenger might prefer a little less.

3. If you've had practical experience doing so you'd realize that hands-free cell conversations with the top down are a hell of a lot clearer on both ends if you put the windows up on the SL.

4. Because Mercedes designed the car that way... If you stop to consider why the top-opening sequence includes the unnecessary last step of rolling the windows back up, then one might believe that feedback indicated that many customers prefer driving that way. The demographics of the SL owner group are different than C or E class owners.

Wow, that's a pretty strong indictment of a car's looks based on whether the windows are rolled up or down.

I guess on the positive side no matter if the windows are up or down, tinted black or clear, an SL driver will never look nearly as "retarded" or "stupid" as a grown man driving an S2000.

On another note, it's pretty amusing that about half of the responses to this thread are from owners of fixed-roof cars with some opinions that would be more valid if the car in question wasn't a white convertible.

I support you for the good attitude rather than responding an argument to the guy who posted before this. I wish more people could find humor in people's overly aggressive insults.
