Atter Market Warranty

Anyone ever hear of, or know of, Total Service Protection for an after market warranty for my SL55? Car has 48k on it and I do want an after market warranty.

call and ask for mike...

they seem to have the best deal on service contracts....and daimler still has a 20% stake in chrysler.

Not to get off topic, but what are the parameters and duration of extending the factory warranty?

Mike has the best deals but the car has to have less than 48k miles to qualify...Stricks is over.

yeah...wasn't sure if he had 48k exactly or just over. like if my car had 47,787 i would just round up to 48k. so what is it...?? that would be a good tell tale...

It's best to call different MB dealers to get the right answers...they all mark the price up differently while offering the same thing. Just make sure it is from Mercedes.

Mike sells an aftermarket warranty similar to all the others out there but at a good price. I don't know how he verifies the mileage to be under 48,000 miles but the car also has to be within 48 months of the in-service date, which is easy to check.

I called the local dealer, he said the factory warranty can be extended ONLY by the original owner for up to an additional 3 years, 100 k miles on top of the 4 year warranty (total of 100k miles, up to 7 years) . BUT if you buy one of their used certified pre owned cars you can purchase the additional 3 year warranty at time of purchase.

Call Auto Warranty Brokers at 1-800-372-0665
and ask for Rich (Ext. 417). Tell him Rajah sent
you and he will take care of you. I got a Mercury
Platinum warranty (recommended by my SA, since
they pay everything he claims) for 5 years, 100k
miles for $2900. My car only had 28k miles on it
though, so your policy may be slightly higher.

It’s possible to get lower mileage and time frames besides what seems to be the maximum 7yrs/100k miles from the in-service date. My MB warranty is about to expire and I just broke 30,000 miles. Mike gave me quotes for a 5yr/50k for $1,225, 7yr/50k for $1,285, and a 7yr/85k for $2,095.

Total Protection Plan

The plan isn't all that is cracked up to be. Paid about $3,200 for an additional 3yrs/36000 miles on top of my warranty. They do not pay for diagnostics which can cost an arm and a leg. They will negotiate the rate with your dealership and pay up to "x" amount if they feel the dealership is charging to much. In other words, they only paid about 60% of the issues. If your car has ALOT of issues, it is worth it such that you re-coupe your cost. If not, then forget it.

I have the total protection plan. I used them a couple of times. They also wouldn't offer me a $0 deductible plan. A couple of things I used them for was

1) Shift gate wouldn't unlock to switch from Park to Drive w/o force.
2) TPM's would stop reading causing it to fail.
3) Hood sensor kept on complaining I was driving with my hood up.
4) Differential was whining.

I also looked into Mercury. Total Protection covers more parts than what Mercury does. Just my $.02.

I would only buy a certified pre-owed car from a dealer and then extended it for the additional 2 years giving you a total of 3 years or 100K miles over your factory warranty. Say you buy a 2005 with 30K miles that has another year of factory you will then have a total of 4 years of coverage up to 100K miles. The reason for this recommendation is if you plan to keep this car for several years the CPO warranty is tranferable to another individual and these cars are very complex and can cost a fortune to fix if you start having problems with the major systems like the ABC and the main control unit. The engines and transmissions seem to be bullet proof but the electronics and suspension are not. A couple of problems with these systems will cover the cost of the extended warranty. Mine cost $3995 to have the entire 3 years 100K miles. When the warranty runs out I will move on to another car. My conclusions are based on reading most of the threads on problems with these vehicles.

is factory warranty an after market warranty

Spoke to a buddy of mine tonight who sells used high end cars and the warranties. He told me the MBZ extended warranty is not from Mercedes but from another company. He says the dealer tells you this so you can buy it from them... He says to purchase a model still under warranty and you can obtain that same warranty... If this is the case, I could buy an 03 from a second owner or used dealer not neccesarily from the first owner or dealer.

Anyone can chime in on this?

The Certifited Pre-owned cars come with a 1 year 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty it is the same warranty that comes on a new MB. It is a Mercedes benz warranty that you can only get if you buy a CPO car from the dealer. This warranty can be extended at the time of purchase for 1 to 2 additional years with the same 100K mile coverage. So you can buy 2 years of CPO coverage or 3 years of CPO coverage that will cover your car for that time period and or 100K miles whichever comes first. It comes with loaner cars when warranty work needs to be performed. I would recommend looking at only CPO cars sold from a MB dealer. If the car is CPO and still has say 1 year of factory warranty you get that year plus the 1 year CPO on top. So it would have 2 years of coverage, you can then add an additonal years up to a total of 4 years including the 1 year factory warranty. That is what I did. It cost me $3995 for the 2 additonal years of CPO warranty. Cheap insurance and no hassle. Go talk to a MB dealer about the CPO program.

Exactly what the dealer is selling me. I'm picking up a 05 E500 Wed. which has orig. warranty until 10/08. After that the CPO 1 yr. kicks in. After that I have the option to buy a 2 yr. additional CPO equivalent warranty, (bumper-bumper not incl. wear & tear), loaner car etc. for $2595. But to get this 2 yr. I have to get it on Wed. when I pick up the car. These MB warranties have $0 deductible. The gamble is of course if its worth it. Are repairs going to exceed $2595 over 2 years?....

This info. is also available on the mbusa.com website. Just my thoughts....

You want to buy the extended warranty, it is transferable if you sell to an individual and that would be a huge selling point 2 to 3 years down the line. Also it is very cheap insurance on future repairs if you keep the car the entire time of the warranty.

PS- Just a suggestion have them pull a front wheel before you sign the papers and make sure the front pads have at least 50% and the rotors look good. This is one area that dealers try to save on since it is a wear item.
